If you figure out how to get out of the templates, then you have to figure out where, exactly, to start typing - which turns out to be an unmarked narrow area between the 2nd title and the prompt. If you accidentally click that, thinking that might be where to start typing, it takes you to the templates - which I guess could be useful in special cases, but it ought to be possible to also do the most basic thing: Type a simple note. Then you get a prompt that tells you to "just start typing or choose a" never finishing the sentence. So, you have the title, and then a box with the title in it immediately above the title. When you type in the title of your note, it creates a box in which the title also appears. Instead, you create the note and get an ugly page filled up mostly with a giant icon of a missing image. It is no longer possible to simply create a note and start typing on a blank page.

While Evernote might be able to fix some of the usability issues, I'm not confident it can earn back the Trust so many of us placed in it.Įvernote for Mac is just broken, at least on my MacBook Pro running Mojave. I don't have the trust any longer and I'm deeply uncertain that Evernote understands why the app is important to people. Many like myself put our trust in Evernote that it would be a reliable system for organizing content we wanted to retain in something of a digital file cabinet. The only conclusion I can come to from that, is that the application is deeply flawed and with the recent changes, it's also now almost unusable. I had around 32,000 notes, including loads of clipped articles I wanted to save for potential research, I blew all that out by downloading then deleting the notebooks I don't need frequently and that did not result in a much speedier user experience. I've been an Evernote user since 2011, after reading David Allen's getting things done, I wanted to get organized and as per his suggestion develop a trusted system. Additionally Evernote has been so slow, prone to hanging for that past couple of years it's pushed me to seriously exploring other solutions.
